Empty nest ... can never be ready

Yesterday was like any other day... I was busy at my work and the door bell rang. The courier guy dropped of a big mystery box and it was marked as gift from my company. I opened it to find an assortment of chocolates, some herbal tea and few other wellness products. But 75% was chocolates. Something that myself and my son enjoy (having together).

This is 4th week since Adi moved to his college. First 2 weeks we were all preoccupied in ensuring he is comfortable in the quarantine. Week 3 went off in settling in the Hostel or as they call hall. With all the initial buzz settling, now we are hear the omni present silence. Living in a small apartment as ours, there are no designated rooms.  Its everyplace for everyone. So I miss him everywhere.

I miss him when I watch Netflix. I miss him when I open the snack box. Breakfast and lunch choices have become so unattractive. No enthu to have anything special cooked. No one to nag me to make some Vagarne Mosuranna (Spl Curd rice). No one who is up until midnight and looking for some midnight snack to munch!

Work keeps me busy ... but still an empty nest is an empty nest and I was never really prepared, although it was coming.

Monsters in the Red roof tiles.....

As a child I never knew about the monster under the bed thing...As my dad was away on work, most of the time it was mom, grad mom, sis, bro and me at home and we all slept together... and many times these were nice mats and sheets on the floor. I think I always got to sleep in the middle.

So what was my monster? I knew where they were. It was not one but a family of monsters indeed. And every night I prayed they don't crawl up to the portion of the wooden beam on top of where I slept!! Those monsters were dark, ugly and then I was sure they will attack me right on my face when I sleep.

What amused me is when one of the monsters lost their tail, one day. That's when I learnt lizards have this amazing capability to let go of their tail for the prey or the predator and grow them back. Ofcourse this little fact did not magically make me feel my monsters as my buddies. To this date I cannot stand a lizard anywhere near me.

But nature is amazing isnt it!

Motivation

So what keeps us working women to stay at work....As a kid when I got home I had to see my mom at home. I am sure adi wants the same, This eternal conflict to be good at everything esp both work and home is impossible for at-least mere mortal like me. But still I am too selfish(?) and unable to give away my career. Hope I can come at peace satying as career woman or deicide to be a Home Maker at do it wholeheartedly.....

Nostalgia

Its been a while since I put down my thoughts here! It was a wonderful Sunday. Meeting all my relatives at this engagement function I went along with my son and Hubby was a good feeling. Then in the afternoon spending time with my very dear Aunt and Uncle brought me all the sweet memories back from my initial days at Bangalore. When I joined for my job right after college I stayed with them. They helped me settle in Bangalore quickly and I never missed home. When my wedding was fixed, it was my Aunt and Uncle more than my parents who stood besides me in every step and been there every day to support me. When Adi was born we spent his initial days at their home....My Aunt had moist eyes today as I left back for Home! We both miss those good old days. She has been an inspiration in many ways and wish I spend more time with them!

Funny Mummy

Some of my favourite shows on TV are the makeover shows. And I love the before and after shots that they show. Be it 'Monster House' or 'What not to wear'...I love the dramatics and the transformations they show. I wished and hoped to have a make over of myself.

I was at the parlour this weekend and I saw a new recruit who was quite enthu in whatever she was doing. I asked her what will be a good hair cut for me and she suggested something and also said it costed a 175 bucks (oh my). I got adventurous and said ok. She did a really good job and I was impressed with the results. Another lady waiting for her turn got quite impressed with her work and started asking for a hair cut for herself. I was soooo happy with the change that I could see a bounce in my step when I getting back home.

I was waiting for father and son duo to get back home and like a kid at candy store eagerly answered the door bell. My son enters and he doesn't notice a thing. I was heartbroken ..but remained hopeful and asked him how was amma looking, he still dint see a thing and said I was fine. I was upset and asked him how he liked my hair. He then started laughing so lound I dint know what to make out and Mahesha enters home and joins him in his laughter. By then I was too angry and dint know to laugh or cry with them and demanded an explanation.

The reply ..."funny mummy looks very young". Now what should I make of such a comment?? To add insult to injury a longtime friend did not recognise me when I met her the next day. With broken heart and the parlour setting gone..I am back to being my old self...I asked aadi if he like me better this way or funny mummy....You can guess the answer.

Can you hear a heart breaking :(

Lost and Found

I have been away from Jasmine Summer for a long time now and the primary reason ... I got lost in an online game. All my online time went into Toontown...something we subscribed for aadi to play during summer. I am not a great gaming person but this one is cute and the learning experience is good for young and old.

And I had to do paisa vasool , so I explored all levels in the game. I have done almost 80% now and I guess another month and we an close the subscribtion.

I like the concept of the jolly toons life (you can clearly draw parallel with your day to day life) is invaded constantly by bad robot cogs. The bots are organised just like our work place. Sellbots (governed by a VP), cashbot (headed by CFO), lawbots (with a cheif justice) and finally the lazy bossbots headed by CEO enjoying time at the country club.

You can play for free with limited access, but, the fun is beating the bots in their headqtrs, which you cant do unless you subscibe. There is a lot written in the net and vidoes posted that you should look - just google.

What I like about this game,
1. Safe for my kid
2. Improved his vocab and social skills greatly
3. Tremendous exposure to corporate world - some of the lines uttered by the bots cant be understood by kids but you will enjoy.
4. Helps understand the need for team work - it also tells helps learn when to save others and when to not to :)
5. Bigger risks give bigger rewards and also bigger losses.

I can go on and on..but i think it is a good investment for one summer and let your 7+ year olds to play. Once subscribtion lets 6 toons to be created so kids and parents can take turns and play. I like this better then second life :).

I hope to see more of myself here, now that I am closing getting out of toontown !!!
